Planning ground transport for FIFA World Cup 2026 in Toronto
BMO Field as a host venue, match-day road closures, why group vehicles beat individual rides, and how early to commit.

Toronto is a host city
Toronto is one of the host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with matches at BMO Field on the Exhibition grounds. That puts a very large crowd into a site with limited road access, on dates known well in advance - which means both the congestion and the demand for vehicles are entirely predictable.
Match-day access will be restricted
Major-event footprints around Exhibition Place close roads well beyond the venue itself, and the closures on a World Cup match day will be more extensive than anything the site normally handles. Practically, that means drop-off and collection points sit further out than usual and are confirmed close to the day rather than months ahead.
Group vehicles, not individual rides
For a group of eight or more, a Sprinter or a mini coach is better on every axis: one pickup, one drop, one fare split between everyone, and one vehicle to find afterwards instead of four. On a day when every vehicle in the region is committed, it is also far more likely to be available.
Commit early
Fleet capacity across the GTA is finite and tournament dates will be booked out long before the fixtures matter to casual planners. Groups that intend to travel to matches should reserve as soon as their plans firm up, with the understanding that pickup points may be adjusted as the official traffic plan is published.
Plan the return, not just the arrival
Getting to a match is straightforward; leaving with 45,000 other people is the hard part. Agree a collection point far enough from the venue that a vehicle can actually reach it, and accept a ten-minute walk in exchange for not sitting in a stationary queue for an hour.

The rest of the trip, booked in one place
